I'm not one to take offense to most anything but when I hear folks 'round the office say they wish they could be Jewish for a day so they can skip work because of the High Holy Days is something that's starting to leave a bad taste.

Wouldn't it be nice to assume a faith when its convenient? I'm sure the victims of the Holocaust would've liked to have shed their Judiasm to escape persecution in order to survive, but unfortunately they didn't have a choice. (I'm sure if faced with same the situation, many of those same wanna-be-Jews-for-a-day wouldn't be so gung ho to reach for the torah and dance the horah).

Rarely have I heard people wishing they were Christian so they can get Ash Wednesday off, a lot of businesses close on Good Friday and of course Christmas Day. . . So when I hear people bemoan the fact that a small number people take time off to observe the High Holy Days it would be refreshing if they could resist the temptation to twist it into something they feel cheated out of. Practicing Jews are not at work on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur because they are observing their faith, not taking a vacation day.

**Incidentally, This NON-Practicing Jew Put In A Full Day At Work On Both Aforementioned Holidays**

The critical thinkers at USA Today
had this to say about the new ABC series "Commander In Chief" (mind you I am paraphrasing):

"Playing The President On Television: A Job More Difficult In Real Life".

Someone had better mention this to the man pictured above.
